Our pharmacist has specialized <USP 797> training in aseptic technique and follows strict aseptic procedures. He has over 19 years experience in sterile compounding and is certified in Sterile Admixture Services through the University of Texas at Austin and has received additional sterile compounding training through Critical Point.
At The Pharmacy at St. Michaels, sterile custom-made medications are prepared in a state-of-the-art <USP 797> compliant, ISO 5 (class 100) laminar hood inside an ISO 7 (class 10,000) certified clean room.
Our clean room is re-certified every 6 months by an independent certification company. This certification requires that our clean room undergo the following tests:
- Airflow volume / velocity readings - this assures that both unidirectional and non-unidirectional flow areas are properly balanced and unidirectional zones are maintaining proper air patterns
- Room air exchange rates - this checks if the area is meeting its design airflow
- HEPA filter integrity testing - this checks the HEPA filters and system for leaks
- Non-viable particle counting - this reports the amount of airborne particulate of a specified size in the clean zone
- Temperature / relative humidity testing - this examines whether the air HVAC controls are functioning properly and uniformly
- Pressure cascade monitoring - this verifies that room differential pressures are operating according to design
Sterility testing is completed by an independent third party and all testing is documented and maintained on file, which gives you and your family confidence in the quality of all sterile preparations compounded at The Pharmacy at St. Michaels.
